Becoming Otherwise
November 8 – December 21, 2019
Opening Reception
Friday, November 8
7 – 9 pm
Becoming Otherwise is Jack Wax’s second solo exhibition with Reynolds Gallery, presenting a series of drawings he describes as “two-dimensional sculptures,” alongside wall mounted and free-standing glass objects.
The same electrolytes that are contained in my blood – sodium, calcium, potassium carbonate, chloride – are there in the evaporates at the fringe of desert marshes and ephemeral lakes; crystallized on basin rims as white residues, as though a pot has boiled dry. The chemistries of the planet and our bodies are similar enough that our body fluid contains 0.9 percent salt – the exact salinity of whatever ancient sea that we managed to crawl out of, a sea we could leave because we had learned first of all to take it with us.
